Lipscomb Wins Burton European Open

Ya aww ya.. Ottawa native, now livin’ it up in Whistler, Crispin Lipscomb ripped up the halfpipe in Laax, Switzerland, at the Burton European Open, and took top spot. His winning run rocked the house, with a frontside 1080, cab 700, frontside 900, backside 900 and huge backside alley-oop! East Coasters are celebrating too, as Sarah Conrad, from Halifax, rode strong with a backside air, frontside air, backside air, air to fakie, cab 500 to switch alley-oop 500 and took the silver medal on the women’s side at the same event.

“I just had a great day. The sun came out after a long storm and my teammate Sarah Conrad was doing so well and we were feeding off each other!” said Lipscomb. “I am really happy for a good result in Europe, giving me major wins now in Canada, USA, Japan and finally Europe! Go Canada!!”

Maëlle Ricker of Whistler, took the bronze in the Boardercross event. Another Whistler native, Mercedes Nicoll also turned in a top performance, taking home sixth in the Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe.

Also over at the Nokia FIS Snowboard World Cup tour, rookie Matt Morison from Burketon, Ontario, ripped up the Parallel Slalom course in Nendaz, Switzerland and took home the bronze medal. In his final race, he took down veteran Siegfried Grabner, and made his mark on the World Cup tour, with his first podium finish.

Great job!

Wheelman bushpigI don’t know what to make of it, but this company out of Australia has had these Wheelman Bushpig’s for quite some time, now they are getting more popular in north america.. 20mph top speed isn’t too shabby, it looks like a smooth ride on sand, kinda like carving in the snow. Giro Bad Lieutenant Snowboard Helmet Blasts your Beats

Giro Bad Lietenant Audio Snowboard Helmet

Giro has the latest helmet for you to get your groove on while cuttin up the snow. They call it the Bad Lieutenant, and it looks just as bad as it did back in WW2, with a few differences of course. They put a pair of speakers in the ear muffs for you to easily connect your MP3 player of choice, and i’m sure this model isn’t as heavy as the military issue bomb-blast protectors they used back in the day. Price is about US $75 which is pretty decent.

Still Hope!

Not having having snow can allow you to be way more creative. So stay positive people!

“No snow is falling in Ontario, this is true, but the shred can live on. Grab a few buddies and a pick up truck, grab snow from your local hockey arena and set up jibb. Local skate parks usually have nice rails or quarters to session. So stop whining! get out and get stoked.”

Sad State of Affairs for Ontario Boarders!

Mount St. Louis Moonstone
Blue Mountain

Here are aerial pictures of both Blue Mountain and Mount St. Louis Moonstone taken from a Cessna 172 on the first official Boarding Canada snow search. As you can see, its a pretty sad situation for Ontario boarders, especially those like myself, who bought a seasons night pass. Temperatures are starting to drop below freezing, which will hopefully lead to some man made snow dumping. Time shall tell.

Teens burned for hocking stolen snowboard on eBay

A woman had her $1200 snowboard stolen from Mount St. Louis Moonstone over the holiday break. After searching everywhere with her husband, they decided to call it quits and head home empty handed. On their drive back her husband got the idea to check eBay when they get home, so they did, and guess what, it was there. Two teens from Barrie will be heading to court shortly. As for what kind of Snowboard it was? We can only guess a 2007 Shaun White Burton. Hopefully this story will scare future punks from hocking our boards.

Float - An All-Women Snowboard Film

A film being made for release in fall of 2007 will feature all-women snowboarders. It has a focus on women’s riding, showing what level they are at, and to document the environment and lifestyle of these ladies cutting up the pow. Unfortunately no women boarders from Canada, but a good majority of them are just south of us. Most locations will be remote and rural, it will be a fun flick to watch later this year.

Blue Mountain lays off 1,300, no snow this season

The largest ski resort in Ontario is laying off 1,300 workers and shutting down temporarily. Unfortunately the manmade snow cannot keep up with the abnormally warm climate Ontarian’s are facing. By this time of year 60% of trails should be open, right now, Blue Mountain has none. If something changes workers will be called back, but who knows at this point.
