Anderson wins World Cup snowboard parallels

Jasey Jay Anderson is back on top. Anderson, 31, Canada’s snowboarding veteran, and winner of more World Cup titles than anyone else, stepped back up to the top of the podium at today’s Parallel Giants Slalom race in Sungwoo, Korea, for the first time in two years.
“Jasey Jay started off ok today, and as the day went on, the conditions became more in his favour,” said Canadian Alpine Snowboard Team Head Coach, Mark Fawcett. “”The course had bigger banks and soft snow, so it was really an athlete’s battle, which is a huge strength for him.”
Anderson, of Mont Tremblant, Quebec, matched up against team rookie and last week’s World Cup winner, Matt Morison of Burketon, Ontario in the first round of the finals. In a hard fought battle between the two, the veteran Anderson came out ahead of his protégé. Morison ended up in 11th spot, and another team rookie, Michael Lambert (Toronto, ON), finished in 29th position.
“The matchup between Jasey Jay and Matt was definitely the ‘bout’ to watch today. It was a real battle,” continued Fawcett. “Jasey Jay got after it today. He had to dig deep with a really physically demanding course, and he pushed through and came out on top.”
On the women’s side, Calgary native Kimiko Zakreski also had an inspiring day, qualifying through to the finals in first position. From there, she rode strong and finished in fifth spot, the best result of her career on the World Cup tour. Caroline Calvé of Aylmer finished in 23rd spot.
